Isle of Man Motor Museum

This one's big. Very, very big.

As soon as you walk through the doors of the vast, hangar-like space the museum occupies, you'll realise you're somewhere out of the ordinary.

Based around a collection lovingly (some may say obsessively!) assembled by father-and-son team Denis and Darren Cunningham over the last 30 years, this is a unique assortment of around 400 vehicles, spanning more than 100 years of motoring. Strictly speaking, it's not really a museum in the traditional sense, as it's driven largely by the interests of the Cunninghams, but it's fair to say that this is largely what makes it unique - pretty much every exhibit has a story and a personal connection to the owners and, if they have time, they're often happy to share those stories with you.

The collection is truly a marvel - from self-propelled guns to E-Type Jags, via weird Japanese children's buses and the odd bit of  space hardware. The motorcycle exhibit alone could take hours to explore fully. It's almost certain you're not going to finish the whole place in one visit - especially if you end up chatting to the owners. Repeat visits are pretty much a necessity, and the ever-changing nature of the exhibits means you won't get bored.

There's a great review of the Motor Museum on the John's Motorcycle News site here. The photo we're using also comes courtesy of them, for which we're very grateful. www.johnsmotorcyclenews.co.uk
